I
want the last years GATE Forum Question paper. Do I
get it free?
You may choose to buy GATE Forum’s last years
Question papers. They are not free. The rates will be
mentioned in the Fees / Registration page.
Where should
I send my DD? Would it not be safer to send it to the
head office?
In a word, No. It saves a lot of time and effort at
our end if you send the form to the nearest office in
case any of our offices are at your location. In case
none of the offices are at your location, you can send
it to our head office at Bangalore.
I sent a
DD. How do I know that you have received it?
We or one of our centers will dispatch a receipt to
your address once we/the center has received the DD.
Typically, we will take a maximum of one week after
receipt of the DD to send you the receipt.
When will
I get my login and password?
The login and password section is for testing purposes
only.
I already
sent the DD.
Please be patient while we process your request and
send you your roll number and receipt. The dates for
the test and the section tests etc. have been put up
on the site. We will be sending the test material only
according to the schedule.
Is there
any fixed time, date or venue for online tests?
The online tests may / may not be used. There is no
commitment relating to online tests from our side.
Can I have
all my tests online?
Last year we did provide this option. But this year,
we are planning some changes to the software and are
working on the same. This year we are offering only
Classroom or Take-Home options for our students.
Is it possible
to have all the tests delivered to my doorstep?
Yes it is. Please be sure to tick on the right option
while filling up our downloaded application form.
Even the
online tests?
The tests that are available for download are free and
will not be delivered in printed form. We have withdrawn
the online tests this year.
I missed
the classroom test last Sunday.
No problem. You may collect the test paper from our
test center, or you may collect them from the test venue
when the next classroom test is conducted.
How can I
get the question paper and solutions of that test?
The solutions will be provided in printed form and will
be available for download at the site.
My Login
and password at the site are not working?
The login and passwords are not required for the students,
as the online tests have largely been withdrawn. In
case we introduce online testing, the login and passwords
will be activated.
I am not
able to enter the questions at the Forum on the site.
You need to register again to enter questions at the
forum. The forum is a separate part of the website.
There are two forums, and they are entirely separate.
To interact, you will need to register at each of the
forums.
I am not
able to give online tests.
The online tests have been withdrawn as of now.
Is there
any other forum also where I can register my doubts
and get results?
You may also use the forum at http://forum.gateforum.com
I have sent
the DD, but haven’t received a receipt yet.
The DD takes approx 3-7 days to reach
us depending on which mode you have sent it through.
We take a maximum of 2 days for processing. We send
your receipt to you by courier, and it takes 1-3 days
to reach you. Therefore ideally, you should wait for
15 days after sending DD before enquiring.
Haven’t
yet received the admit card.
The admit cards will be sent 2-3 weeks before the tests
actually start. Please be patient.
How do I
give online tests with GATE Forum?
The online tests have been withdrawn as of now.
Why provide
us with login and password if you do not have online
tests?
The login and passwords are provided so that in case
any online test is provided at any time, you will be
able to use it.
Does GATE
Forum provide any coaching material?
No. The online library is what we provide online. Apart
from that we provide assistance through our discussion
forums.
The tests
begin on **** Date. What do I do until then?
The section tests will be dispatched before the full
tests. Finish off section tests. Finish off your syllabus.
And solve the previous year papers.
The key you
have given for the CD is not working. What should I
do?
The CD option stands withdrawn as of now.
I want all
the test booklets delivered to my home. Will that be
possible?
Yes. Please provide your complete address in the admit
card with your phone numbers for this.
I chose Classroom
Tests. But now I want to shift to take home mode. Will
that be possible?
You will have to inform at least 3 weeks before conduction
of a test to shift modes. Additionally, it is upon the
convenience and discretion of our office/franchisee
at that particular location to accept or reject such
a request. However, we will try to consider all genuine
requests.
What is GATE Score and percentile?
How are they calculated?
The GATE SCORE of a candidate is a
statistical performance index in the range 0 to 1000.
It reflects the ability of a candidate, irrespective
of the paper or year in which he/she has qualified.
Candidates with same GATE SCORE from different disciplines
and/or years can be considered to be of equal ability.
GATE Score = K1 + K2 ((m-a)/s)
where,
m = marks obtained by the candidate.
a = average of marks of all candidates
who appeared in the paper mentioned on this scorecard,
in the current year.
s = standard deviation of marks of
all candidates who appeared in the paper mentioned on
this scorecard, in the current year.
K1 and K2 are determined respectively
from the mean and standard deviation of marks of all
candidates across all papers and years since GATE 2002.
A typical qualitative interpretation
of the GATE SCORE, for example, can be as follows:
Ability Level GATE Score Range
Outstanding 800 to 1000
Excellent 675 to 800
Very good 550 to 675
Good 425 to 550
Above average 300 to 425
Average 100 to 300
Below average Below 100
ii. Percentile Score
The percentile score is not the same as percentage of
marks. The percentile score of a candidate shows what
percentage of candidates, who appeared in the same paper
in GATE 2005, scored less marks than him/her. It is
calculated as follows: Let N be the total number of
candidates appearing in that paper and n be the number
of candidates who have the same all India rank c in
the same paper (there can be bunching at a given all
India rank). Then all the candidates, whose all India
rank is r, will have the same percentile score P, where
[P = {(no. of candidates securing marks less than the
candidate concerned) / N} x 100]
